Jim Hughes
Graduation Year: 1995
Major: Education
Current Career: Assistant Vice President – Organizational Development with Ardent Health Services
Undergraduate Leadership Positions: Chaplin, Chapter President, Pledge Educator
Hobbies: Rock Crawling, Estate Sales, Concerts
Family: Wife and 2 kids, 2 grand-kids
Why did you join: “I found people I liked to be with, people who shared similar and different interests. We were certainly a fun and well-rounded group of guys.”
How has SigEp impacted your life: Some of the values I learned while a SigEp have certainly shaped my perspective. The concept of a Balanced Man means a lot to me. It’s something I still strive for today.
How has SigEp set you up for success: I had the opportunity to provide leadership for my peers and that leadership experience has helped me develop a career specializing in leadership development.
Proudest Moment as a SigEp: We were always the most diverse. We have focused students, athletes, socializers, musicians, etc. We really had all types and we worked well together.
Favorite SigEp Memory: Completing my pledge experience alone (well, I did have Dan as a Pseudo Pledge Brother J). We started as a group of 5 with 24 Brothers in fall of 1991 and before too long everyone else dropped out. I was certainly determined and I learned a great deal of self-reliance through the process. Uno!
Foundest Brotherhood Memory: Too many to choose from. I always enjoyed Pledge Education activities though J
What advice would you give to younger alumni or active members
whom just graduated or about to Graduate Thiel: Get the most out of your experience, try new things, take your experience seriously but not too seriously. Meet new friends and stay in touch. I cherish my friendships from my time at Thiel.
What would you say to a prospective student considering
joining SigEp: Do it…I never planned to be part of a Fraternity, but I never regretted it for a second. You have to do something while you are in college, why not make life-long friendships, make a commitment to being part of a great organization and have a good time!
If you would like to Nominate a Penn Nu Alumni to be spotlighted, just send an email to Sean Willins at Thielsigep@gmail.com. Please include the nominees name and contact information.
